Oh, October. The leaves on the trees are a lovely golden hue, the air is crisp and refreshing, and the days are beginning to grow shorter. It’s the time of year when the crockpot finds its regular place on the kitchen counter, and hearty soups, stews and meals cook low and slow as we enjoy our days outside after a humid summer.

Though summer, with all its abundance of vegetation, is now over, October still offers plenty of fresh fruits and veggies with the addition of pumpkins, winter squash and sweet potatoes. So this month, visit a local farmers’ market to get the freshest and best produce available and pick up these in-season fruits and veggies.
