Pumpkins, apples and crisp cool weather — September means autumn has arrived! Children are back in school, college sports are starting back up and there’s a plethora of produce at the local farmer’s market. Let’s add some sumptuous colon-healthy dishes to the family meal plan you created last month by incorporating what’s in season.

In-Season Fruits and Vegetables:

  • Apples
  • Blackberries
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Corn
  • Cucumbers
  • Eggplant
  • Grapes
  • Green beans
  • Kale
  • Melon (cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon)
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Peppers (bell, jalapeno, poblano)
  • Potatoes
  • Pumpkins
  • Radishes
  • Raspberries
  • Squash (summer: yellow, zucchini; winter: acorn, butternut, delicata)

With all of these delicious fresh fruits and veggies available, creating a family meal plan is as easy as sitting down and brainstorming your favorite ways to eat these foods.

From there, do the same with all the produce listed. Then, make a weekly meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner using these dishes. As you plan, make a grocery list of the ingredients you will need, and you’ll be ready to go.
