Michael O’Brien was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer and unforturnately passed away. He passed on October 2nd in Lumberton, NC. We had no idea he had cancer. He didn’t realize how easy a colonoscopy exam was and therefore had never had one. The doctors had said he had colon cancer for 3-5 years, but we think it may have been longer. He began having pain in his chest and went in for an ultra sound. The ultra sound results showed tumors on his liver. The cancer had metastisized and we found out this was one of the more aggressive types of colon cancer. Michael O’Brien was my step-father and we are all so saddened and shocked by the accerlated progression of this horrible cancer and the end result. He had a mass in his colon and had surgery to remove the mass. Unfortunately, he was very weak by the onset of the cancer to his body. The cancer had made his entire body to become septic and that is when he passed two weeks ago. I hope to educate people on how important it is to get regular colonoscopies and to do what I can to prevent this type of cancer or any cancer. He was such an amazing person and lived a full and happy life.
